Laboratory
The Surface Treatment Laboratory (LaTS – Laboratório de Tratamento de Superfícies, Portuguese for Surface Treatment Laboratory – LST) is a research facility specializing in surface engineering and the preparation of thin films through chemical, electrochemical, and plasma-assisted processes. These techniques are applied to a wide range of technological fields, including photovoltaic solar cells, (photo)catalysis, the metalworking industry, and aerospace engineering. More recently, the laboratory has expanded its research activities to include biodiesel production through plasma-assisted biocatalytic processes. The laboratory is located in Rooms L419 and L420 of the Technological Center of Joinville at the Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC Joinville).
LST was officially established in 2015 and is registered in the Brazilian Directory of Research Groups as a research group in Surface Technology, Coatings, and Nanostructures. The laboratory is also listed on the Brazilian Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MCTI) National Research Infrastructure Platform (PNIPE). Its research activities are closely associated with projects developed within the Graduate Program in Mechanical Engineering and Sciences (PPGECM) at the Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC).
The facility operates under the regulations established by Normative Resolutions nº 01/2016/CJ (May 05, 2016), 01/2017/CJ (October 31, 2017) and 01/2026/EMB/CTJ (July 20, 2026), which define the procedures for the creation and evaluation of the Teaching, Research, and Extension Laboratories (LIPEEs) of the Technological Center of Joinville at the Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC Joinville). Our lab is currently supervised by Prof. Rafael Gallina Delatorre, as appointed by Ordinance nº 009/2026/DCTJ (February 23, 2026).
